There were two teams up front in Interlagos and those two teams were McLaren Mercedes and Red Bull Renault. The two teams were up front all of Friday which puts them into the position to fight hard head to head for the win. Mark Webber set a lap time of 1:13.811 in the first session to be named the fastest, and Lewis Hamilton pulled off a 1:13.392 to be the fastest man in the final Friday session.

Reliability was good in this first day in Interlagos with only a couple of cars breaking down. One of those drivers was Fernando Alonso, who had his car break down just one year after his Ferrari stopped during Friday Practice last year in Brazil. The other driver was Sergio Perez, who was forced to stop after going across the grass.
